1935 – County Welding Products in New Rochelle, NY starts operations as a distributor for the Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation.

1955 – County Welding Products relocates to its present location in White Plains, NY.

1977 – Myles Dempsey, Sr., founder of Tech Air, and an acquisition specialist for the Linde Division of Union Carbide Corporation, approaches then-Linde President Jack McLean about turning around an underperforming business, County Welding Products. McLean agrees and Myles Dempsey purchases County Welding Products.

1995 – Tech Air is formed by consolidating County Welding Products of White Plains, Connecticut Specialty Gas of Danbury, CT and Peterson Welding Supply of Wappingers Falls, NY.

1995-2005 – Tech Air continues to grow, expanding to five locations in New York and Connecticut, while maintaining its family-owned, family-operated philosophy.

2007 – Myles Dempsey, Jr. succeeds his father as CEO, where he remains today. The company establishes the Tech Air Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) through which employees beneficially own more than 50% of the company stock.

2011 – Tech Air management partners with outside investors to purchase the shares owned by the ESOP and embarks on a strategy of growth by acquisition and integration called buy-and-build.

Today – With operations from coast-to-coast, Tech Air continues to grow and has completed 23 add-on acquisitions over the last 7 years, growing from 5 to 40 locations and currently has nearly 500 employees.


Myles P. Dempsey, Jr. – Chief Executive Officer
Myles joined Tech Air in 1988 as a sales manager and served as vice president of Tech Air of New York from 1994 to 2001. From 2001 to 2007, he served as President and has been Chief Executive Officer since 2007. Previously, Myles worked for The Lincoln Electric Company from 1986 to 1988 as a technical sales representative in the Los Angeles district office. He holds a MBA from Krannert School of Management at Purdue University, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.

James J. Weis – Chief Financial Officer
James joined Tech Air in June 2011 as Chief Financial Officer. From 2009 to 2010, he served as the CFO of Derecktor Shipyards, a custom yacht and commercial ship builder in Bridgeport, CT. From 1984 to 1995, he was CFO at Publicker Industries, Inc. and from 1995 to 2000, served as president and CFO. He holds a BBA in accountancy from Baruch College in New York City.

Gerald J. Girod – Chief Operating Officer
Gerald joined Tech Air in April 2012 as Chief Operating Officer. Gerald was previously Vice President of the northeast zone for Matheson Tri-Gas, a supplier of industrial and specialty gases owned by Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation, the world’s fifth largest supplier of gases and gas handling equipment. Gerald holds an associate degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University.

Joseph R. Wechezak – Chief Information Officer
Joe joined Tech Air in July 2015 as Chief Information Officer. He previously worked for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. from 1995 to 2015 holding various senior-level positions across Information Technology globally. Prior to Air Products, Joe worked at Meridian Bancorp (now Wells Fargo) from 1986 to 1995 leading the retail delivery systems within IT. He holds a B.S. in computer science from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

Oldsmar – remodel of building 340
The goal of this project was to expand our filling capabilities which would both support the existing disposable business of GASCO and also to meet the demand of DeskTop Metals. We installed multiple filling manifolds, a vacuum/bake-out system, a full service lab, and bulk product storage.

North Hollywood – upgrade of our fill plant
The goal of this project was to fold in the recently acquired Leeper Brothers operations into our existing North Hollywood operations. This included adding an additional Oxygen vessel, registering our North Hollywood facility with the FDA to begin filling and distributing medical product.

York Plant – pave the parking lot
The goal was to improve the daily operations by paving the area circling the plant. This made operating our forklifts, reduced wear on our vehicles and improved the overall aesthetics of the property.
